Many people in history are great, and a great person is Abraham Lincoln, and he was our 16th president. The great thing about him is that he helped stop slavery. when Abraham Licoln was president, Amercia wasn't just one whole country. It was divided into 2 parts. The North were called the United States of America, while the southern part of America was called the Confederate States of America. The North believed that their should be no slavery, and Abraham Lincoln was on the North's side. The Confederate States of America believed that slavery was a good thing, so slavery was allowed in the Confederate States. The Confederate States of America had their own president. Abraham Lincoln couldn't believe that America was like this, so he their was a war that happened. If the North won, the Confederate States of America had to stop slavery and had to be a part of the United States of America, and follow its laws. If the South won then then the North had to be a part of them and follow its laws. Their was a lot at stake here, but if one president could lead them to victory, it would be Abraham Lincoln. The war between the 2 parts was called the Civil War. It was a hard fought battle, but at the end their would be only one winner. That winner would be the North! Nobody was allowed to have slaves anymore and the south was part of the United States of America. The North was very happy, and certainly Abraham Lincoln was happy after not being with his family for a lot of days. When he came back to the White House, he was very tired. Anyway, a few days later, he and his wife went to a play. His son was at another play with security guards. That play consisted of John Wilkes Booth, and he was from the south, so he supported them. John Wilkes Booth made sure the crowd was laughing, and they weren't paying any attention to them. He then went up to the special seat where Abraham Lincoln and his friend were sitting. Then, they killed the 16th president of the United States. If that wasn't enough, they also killed his friend. Booth then got out of the theater, but he got stuck, and his knee started bleeding. He was still able to move though, and he quickly got on his horse and went to a secret place to hide. While that was happening, Lincoln's wife sent him into a room at a lady's house. The room was very small, so not many people fit in there. Anyway, Abraham Lincoln still had a heartbeat, but hours later he would die. When the security guards heard the news, they quckly went to the White House with Lincoln's son to ensure his safety. When Lincoln died, everybody was sad. Everybody knew it was John Wilkes Booth, because nobody could see hima t the play, and he was closest to the president's seat. One guy posted a poster that said that if someone found John Wilkes Booth, they would give him $500. $500 does seem like a lot, but to find a person without knowing where he is hiding in a whole country is pretty hard to do. We have tor remember that money in the old days was worth a lot more. So, $500 back then would be worth about $10,000 today! That person would get a lot of money. Eventually one person did find John Wilkes Booth, so the person got the money and they killed John Wilkes Booth.

Harriet Tubman had helped a lot of people in history. Instead of saving herself, she used her intelligence to help slaves. Harriet Tubman legally changed her name when she was a grown up. She also had the freedom of not being a slave, but she chose to risk her life and help slaves. She had also devoloped the Underground Railroad, but it wasn't a railroad at all. The Underground Railroad were paths that lead to Canada. They would go to Canada because the USA said that residents of the country could use slave, while their was a different rule in Canada. The people in Canada couldn't own slave, and that would be against the law. Due to many greats, America is now a country where everybody has freedom. Harriet Tubman had been on about 32-38 missions on saving slaves. She saved an average of 7 people at a time. So, 7 times 34 is 238 which would mean that she saved around 238 people! She did for 12 straight years. Harriet did also complete other great accomplishments. Harriet was a caretaker for people, she was a Civil War nurse and the one that most people remember is being the leader of the Underground Railroad. While being the leader of the Underground Railroad, she had to make sure that nobody knew that she was helping the slaves get their freedom. So, she had made her own code language for the slaves to speak. Moses was her undercover code name. She had chose this name because their was once a guy named Moses who went to Egypt to give the people in Egypt a good life. Onto the one of her other great achievements. After all she had done helping the slaves, she still wanted to help people. So, she was letting sick people in her house! She could have gotten severely sick and she knew it, but she decided to help other people. She also went to get ice and the ice had mosquitos swarming all around it. She swatted the mosquitos and went back to the Civil War camp and helped the Civil war. Harriet Tubman helped many people in her life, and she was ready to risk her life to save lots of people. That was only one hero, but an Indian hero is Mahatma Gandhi. He was a great person, but he wasn't like Harriet Tubman who helped people. Mahatma Gandhi helped his country. England was ruling India at the time(The capital of England's ruling was Calcutta), but India did not like England ruling them at all. England had a really good army, so it was hard to fight its army. England, at that time were taking over other countries. They sometimes did, but sometimes the army could stop them. Anyway, England was ruling India and it didn't look that good for India to become an independent country. Then, a freedom fighter came. He was Mahathma Gandhi. He wanted to make India an independent country once again. Gandhi had inspired himself and the residents of India to make India an independent country. With Ganddhi's help indian citizens were able to defeat the English army and get their freedom back. He lived to 79 years and he had some amazing quotes. One of the quotes is "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." He even had a lot of books written about him. A lot of people respect him and they should respect him!

A lot of greats have succeeded throughout history and they have given us knowledge. Some of these greats are Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, Galileo Galelie, and Learnado Da Vinci. These amazing and knowledgable people were alive a time long ago. Some of these people have dominated their era by so much, people have decided to have a whole city named by them. The place where Thomas Edison was born was in New Jersey, and the place where he was born was named after him. That city is now called Edison. That shows how much respect people have for the great man. Also, the people of Italy respected Galileo Galelie so much, that they called the place where he was born, after Galileo Galelie. Lets get onto some inventions of these people.Thomas Edison actually created the lightbulb. If Thomas Edison was never a person, then we would always have to use fire, in order to see at night or in the dark. That would be dangerous, because the person could do something wrong, or the whole place may light on fire. The lightbulb keeps us safe, and helps out in a lot of other ways. The fact is that we needed Thomas Edison to create the lightbulb or we wouldn't be able to do anything at night. Galileo Galelie is an Italian scientist Many people thought that Galileo Galelie had built the telescope. That actually isn't true at all. Somebody else had built the world's first telescope, and he wanted Galileo to test the telescope and make changes if needed to the telescope. Galileo did make changes to the telescope. The person who did build the telescope and put all the parts together is still unknown. Now, lets talk about some of Learnado Da Vinci's drawings. The Mona Lisa painting is actually one of the most well known drawings right now, and who else would make it other than the scientist and painter himself, Learnado Da Vinci. That picture that Learnado Da Vinci had painted had contributed a lot to the subject of art. Learnado Da Vinci painted that painting, without looking at a person to draw it. Mona Lisa isn't even a real person and he made that name up. He didn't have to even look at a person to draw that picture, and it looked just like a real person. We all just have to respect this guy and how hard it is to acomplish all of these achievements. An actual artist these days wouldn't even be able to draw it up to the extent that he draw it. One fact that is common between Learnado Da Vinci and Galileo is that they are both Italian. Galileo focused more on science, while Learnado Da Vinci focused on engineering. They are popular for to different things, but they are both great people in history. Scientists from NASA have admired him so much that they even made a space telescope named after Galileo Galelie himself. Every single scientist in this world is amazing, and every single one has done something to help mankind's knowledge.
